Bring Them Home Tour

In an extraordinary demonstration of unity and support, Athletes For Israel and Yeshiva University’s men’s basketball team, the Maccabees, joined together for the "Bring Them Home Tour,” solidarity mission to Israel. This journey was not just about sports; it was a powerful statement against antisemitism and anti-Zionism, delivering a message of love to our Jewish brethren in Israel, especially resonant in the wake of October 7th. We came to show our Israeli family that the global Jewish community stands with them, ready to support in times of need.

The athletes’ week-long visit was packed with meaningful activities, including picking fruits in the fields, packing essential supplies for soldiers, and visiting hospitals to offer comfort. Beyond this, the team hosted various clinics, not only sharing skills but also spreading joy and love.

A highlight of their visit was the basketball clinic organized in Kfar Maccabiah, aimed at bringing a slice of normalcy and fun back to the lives of children displaced from southern Israel. This gesture of kindness was extended further through a special collaboration with Shalva, the Israel Association for the Care and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. Here, the student-athletes hosted a clinic that welcomed children with disabilities, emphasizing inclusion and the joy of participation over competition.

The tour also featured a thrilling basketball game between the YU Maccabees and Hapoel Tel Aviv. Intended as a moment of respite and community bonding for both local residents and those displaced by recent events, the game saw an overwhelming response. The excitement it generated was so significant that the venue had to be changed to accommodate the large audience. This event highlighted the unifying power of sports, bringing together teams and fans in a celebration of resilience and communal strength.

The "Bring Them Home Tour" showcased the profound impact sports can have in bridging divides, healing, and uplifting spirits. It was a testament to the belief held by Athletes For Israel in sports as a vehicle for unity and positive change. The dedication and heartfelt efforts of the YU Maccabees and the AFI team have left an indelible mark on all those involved, underscoring the trip’s success in achieving its mission of solidarity, support, and joy. This trip has not only strengthened our bonds but also reaffirmed our commitment to standing together, no matter the distance, in support of our homeland and each other.
